PRODUCTIVE AND ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY OF THE OLIVE CROP IN NORTH SINAI GOVERNORATE (In Arabic)
Department of Economics and Agricultural Extension, Faculty of Technology and Development - Zagazig University, Egypt
Abstract
The research generally aimed, to study the productive and economic efficiency of the olive crop in North Sinai Governorate during the production season 2022. The results concluded that the total production of the olive crop in the governorate reached its lowest value of about 12.02 thousand ton in 2003, while its maximum value reached about 136.80 thousand ton in 2014. The general average of the total production of the olive crop was about 52.07 thousand ton during the period (2001-2022). By studying indicators of economic efficiency, it was found that the coefficient of economic efficiency of the productive elements, human labor, municipal fertilizer, fungicides and insecticides, nitrogen fertilizer, and the number of hours of mechanical work, amounted to about 6.22, 7.08, 7.43, 3.64, 5.54, it is more than one, this can be explained by the fact that there is an inefficiency in synthesizing the use of these elements and that producers can increase their production by expanding the use of these elements. The study also found that the general average of the total costs amounted to about 14.87 thousand LE/feddan, which is equivalent to about 4.30 LE/kg of the olive crop. The study also concluded that the optimal size of production was about 4.58 ton/feddan, While the Maximum size of profits amounted to about 6.48 ton/feddan, It is more than the actual production, which is about 3.46 ton/feddan, meaning that there is a lost income of about 9.77, 18.65 thousand LE, respectively, compared to the optimal size and the profit-maximizing size. By studying profitability margins and indicators of economic efficiency, it was found that the net return, return above variable costs, value added, return ratio to costs, profitability of the spent LE, product profit margin, relative profitability, and economic efficiency amounted to about 19.73 thousand LE, 26.32 thousand LE, 22.53 thousand LE, 2.33, 132.98%, 57.02%, 74.96%, 1.52. Conclusively, the research recommends that the area of one farm in North Sinai Governorate should not be less than 5 feddan in order to maximize the efficiency of using resources, achieve high economic efficiency, and benefit from abundant production.
