Abstract
The bean crop is considered one of the productive and export crops of interest at the local and international levels. The importance of the Egyptian bean crop in particular comes from being one of the most important non-traditional export vegetable crops with a high return, and the European Union is one of the most important importing markets for Egyptian green beans. The research aimed to study the competitiveness of Egyptian green bean exports in some European markets, where the results indicated that Britain comes at the forefront of countries importing from Egypt, as the amount of its imports from Egypt amounted to about 6.5 thousand tons, and the market share of Egypt’s exports in the British market was estimated at about 17.8% of its imports. The British market, and the market penetration index reached about 0.15%, which indicates the ease of penetration of Egyptian exports to the British market as a result of the lower price of Egyptian exports than the price of competing countries within the market, and the price competitiveness index is in favor of Egyptian exports, reaching about 0.74. Also, when Germany ranked second in terms of importing countries, the amount of its imports from Egypt is about 4.9 thousand tons, and by estimating the market share of Egypt’s exports of green beans in the German market, it amounted to about 16.91% of the total German market imports. The market is about 0.46, which indicates the extent of the market's breadth because the Egyptian green beans can easily penetrate the German market, and the price competitiveness index is in favor of Egyptian exports. Where, it reached about 0.81 , Then followed by Italy, Belgium, Ireland, respectively, where the market share of each of them reached about 14.91, 6.29, 5.39, respectively, and then comes in the last places France, the Netherlands, with a market share of about 5.13, 4.26 for each of them, respectively Conclusively, based on the obtained results, the research recommends the following: 1- Working on finding a highly efficient exporting agency and institutions to study foreign markets and their needs of green beans. 2- Interest in planting green beans and increasing the incentive for producers and exporters, which leads to an increase in production and then export.
